No #192 | October 26, 2025 by Matthew Boyd Good morning, welcome to the weekly Lead It Cool newsletter. My super cool daughter had her birthday this weekend. I drove her and her friends to/from dinner, and, good news, I now know all the lyrics to The Fate of Ophelia 😆. In this week's Lead It Cool newsletter:
✅Every Single DaySo this guy (Jim Pearson) in Marysville, Washington just set the world record for the most consecutive days of running at least one mile. Guess how many days in a row he ran a mile? . . . . Try again. Your guess is still too low. . . . . The answer is 20,310 days. That's over 55 years.🤯 This unbelievable commitment to a daily routine reminded me of the "Seinfeld Strategy". This is how it's described: He said the way to be a better comic was to create better jokes and the way to create better jokes was to write every day.
He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker. He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day.
“After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job is to not break the chain.”
It's a great way to fight procrastination and to get better at something. Now I better start running if I'm going to keep pace with Jim😜. 🔊CrowdsA random quote that lives rent-free in my head is this one: “Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd.” The essence of that line is simple but powerful: people are drawn to where other people already are. It’s a law of human nature. We crave belonging. We look for energy, movement, buzz. My kids and I recently watched Trainwreck: The Real Project X on Netflix. In the documentary, what started as a small sixteenth birthday party spiraled into absolute chaos when thousands of people showed up after the invite went viral on Facebook. It’s a perfect modern case study in the magnetism of momentum. It's worth a watch if you have the time. 🍳BreakfastSo true 🤣. All those sitcoms in the 90s (Friends, Seinfeld) always had people eating breakfast together in the morning. Who seriously has time for that? 🤣Trick or TreatI think this is may be my favourite comic of all time 🤣 😎Cool Links🍺Trouble brewing: Why B.C.'s craft beer boom is going flat. The hype around craft beer has always been driven by novelty. And by the start of 2025, it seemed like everything had been done. The excitement around the industry—a thriving, restlessly creative community a decade ago—had all but died down. 🤔Tales from Toddlerhood. Fantastic article by Wait Buy Why on the journey through parenting. 🐔Why Dave's Hot Chicken is beating Sora and ChatGPT in the App Store ranks. The reason Dave's Hot Chicken is currently at the top of App Store rankings — above Sora and ChatGPT — is really simple: This week, the fast food chain, which counted Drake as an early investor, gave away free sandwiches to anyone who used the app to order the sandwiches. 🤔AI is Ruining My Education. A common argument in favour of AI is that it helps protect our time and energy and increase efficiency. But to me, the idea of a world where we’re conditioned to trade hard work for convenience is scary. The whole point of university is to broaden our minds and push ourselves to do difficult things. What people once got lost in—late-night readings, the contemplation of century-old ideas, the labour of love that goes into writing an essay—has vanished almost overnight. Living your life outside of academic responsibilities is important, but with generative AI, the mantra “work smarter, not harder” has taken on a whole new life force. What was meant to be a place of higher learning has turned into a degree mill, fuelled by quick fixes, avoidance and instant reward, all using the same singular employee: ChatGPT. 🎃The Best Halloween Costume Ideas Based on 2025 Movies. No #189 | October 5, 2025 by Matthew Boyd Good morning, welcome to the weekly Lead It Cool newsletter. So my cat does this thing where she’s very particular about which door she uses to go outside in the morning. I’ll open the front door for her, and she’ll turn around and sprint to the sliding door instead, like the world (and weather) will be different from another door😂. But maybe she’s onto something. If the door you’re walking through doesn’t feel right, find one that does. In this...
